Four for Three

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

I have just discovered that the print versions of both Ivy & Intrigue and Two L are part of Amazon’s four for three deal– buy four eligible items, get the least expensive free.

This makes me think fondly of my year in England and the Waterstone’s three-for-two deals. I discovered Forever Amber and Bill Bryson’s Notes From a Small Island that way….

Paper-y Thingies!

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

Late breaking news: Two L is now available in book form! You can order it directly from Amazon.

I also have a surprise to announce. Several people have asked me for a paper version of Ivy & Intrigue: A Very Selwick Christmas. Once I got the hang of the self-publication platform for Two L… well, there you go.

We now have Ivy & Intrigue in book form!

(The only fly in my publication ointment is that the books are pricier than I would have liked them to be. Two L is $9.99 and Ivy & Intrigue $6.99. The reason for this is the nature of the self-publication program, which sets a production fee based on the number of pages in the books. So I’d like to emphasize that Ivy & Intrigue is, as always, free here on the website and that both books are available for far less in e-form.)

Happy reading!

Now On the Shelves

Monday, August 29th, 2011

I feel a bit like the Count who counts: one, one book release! Two, two book releases!

Appearing on shelves today, we have the UK edition of The Temptation of the Night Jasmine:

Meanwhile, on Nooks and Kindles, we have my law school satire, Two L, where Measure for Measure meets Harvard Law:

There will also be a print edition of Two L, but it’s taking just a little longer than expected to get up and running. As soon as it’s available for order, I’ll let you know.

Happy Monday and happy reading!

Bad Weather Reading

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

With the hurricane a-coming, I sped up the publication of the “e” versions of Two L. You can find it on both Nook and Kindle. (The print edition won’t be up for a few days more.)

Stay safe, everyone!

Two L

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

As you know, my law school novel, Two L, will be coming out on Kindle and Nook in (eek!) five days.

Here’s the exciting news: it will also be available as a book book– or, to quote the immortal words of Blackadder, a big papery thingy.

Two L will be available for purchase on Amazon in print form on August 29th, the same day as the Kindle and Nook release. To everyone who asked for a paper copy– this edition is for you!

Teaser Tuesday: “Two L”

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

As announced last week, I’ll be exhuming my old law school satire, Two L, from the vault of lost novels later this month.

Basically, Two L is Measure for Measure meets Evelyn Waugh meets Legally Blonde meets too much free coffee my 3L year.

I debated long and hard about putting it out there because, to be blunt, it is not Pink. The book is modeled very closely on Measure for Measure, which is not known for having Shakespeare’s more lovable characters.

Nonetheless, I’ve always been fascinated by it. To me, Measure for Measure is the archetypal example of the heroine’s journey, in which the intractable Isabella is forced to acknowledge and condone human frailty– including her own. It’s the ultimate debate between the letter of the law on one hand and the nature of justice on the other. And, I’ll admit, I’ve always had a teeny tiny crush on the Duke.

It also provided me an excellent excuse to lampoon the more mock-able bits of law school.

Here’s the blurb:

Something is rotten at Harvard Law. As the frat boys take over the Law Review and the law school sorority, the Veritarts, bring hems to a new high and grades to a new low, the Dean is very strangely gone, leaving in charge one Arthur Agnelli, a scholar of unimpeachable reputation. When a popular lecturer is accused of having an affair with one of his students, 2L Megan Milner reluctantly agrees to try to intercede with Agnelli. But is Agnelli really what he seems? And will the Dean return before the free coffee runs out?

I’d originally intended to put Two L up only on Kindle and Nook (see nervousness about putting it out there, above), but, given the response so far, there’s a shot I’ll be able to make it available in print as well. (And for you Sony e-reader folks, I’m looking into that, too.)

In the meantime, here’s a little preview….

The Law School Novel– Coming Soon!

Friday, August 5th, 2011

As some of you know, around the same time I was writing The Deception of the Emerald Ring, in the winter of 2005/6, I was also writing something else, a satire set at Harvard Law, based on the plot of Measure for Measure.

I called it Two L.

Two L enjoyed a limited circulation among my friends and various HLS faculty before retiring to my Old Novels folder. I was rather proud of it (it was my attempt to play Evelyn Waugh), but it was non-Pink, so I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it.

I am thrilled to announce that Two L will be emerging from the vault for its very first public appearance at the end of this month.
