FALL OF POPPIES Crosses the Pond

Thursday, April 7th, 2016

We interrupt our regularly scheduled Pinkoramae for this public service announcement:

Fall of Poppies debuts in the UK today!

FallofPoppiesREV2 the-record-set-right

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month…

November 11, 1918. After four long, dark years of fighting, the Great War ends at last, and the world is forever changed. For soldiers, loved ones, and survivors the years ahead stretch with new promise, even as their hearts are marked by all those who have been lost.

As families come back together, lovers reunite, and strangers take solace in each other, everyone has a story to tell.

In this moving anthology, nine authors share stories of love, strength, and renewal as hope takes root in a fall of poppies.

Sending hugs across the Pond to Hazel Gaynor and Kate Kerrigan: if only we could all be there to celebrate together!

If it’s five o’clock in London, that means I get to pop open a bottle of bubbly at noon New York time, right?

You can also find Fall of Poppies in the US and Canada and in e-form.

Here’s the official blurb:

In this moving anthology, nine authors share stories of love, strength, and renewal as hope takes root in a fall of poppies.

What I find so amazing and wonderful is how different all the stories are, even with the same event at their core.

“The Record Set Right”– On Sale Today!

Tuesday, January 26th, 2016

English can be a silly language sometimes. My new novella, “The Record Set Right” is both on sale today as in “available for purchase” and on sale today as in “less than the expected price”.

the-record-set-right FallofPoppiesREV2

The Record Set Right“, a sort of mini-novel about a woman’s return to England after sixty-odd years and the memories and revelations she faces, was written for an anthology called Fall of Poppies: Stories of Love and the Great War, set around Armistice Day in 1918. The anthology officially releases on March 1, but I was absolutely thrilled when they told me that “Record Set Right” would be released early as a “teaser” for the full anthology.

The Record Set Right” is one of those stories that took me by surprise. I’d intended to write something entirely different– but Millie’s voice burst onto the page (you’ll see what I mean when you read the story), and the next thing I knew, I was just being taken along for the ride, from 1980 Kenya to England in the teens and then back to 1980 again.

I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I did!

The Record Set Right is on sale today for 99 cents on both Kindle and Nook.

My next stand alone novel (working title: Stand Alone #4) is currently slated to appear in summer 2017. I’ll have more to share with you about that one as soon as the books above are safely out in the world!

FALL OF POPPIES– falling onto your doorstep!

Wednesday, November 18th, 2015

Look what came in the mail yesterday!

Fall of Poppies ARCs

A generous box of advance copies of the World War I anthology, Fall of Poppies: Stories of Love and the Great War, featuring stories by Jessica Brockmole, Hazel Gaynor, Evangeline Holland, Marci Jefferson, Kate Kerrigan, Jennifer Robson, Heather Webb, Beatriz Williams, and me.

All of the stories revolve, in one way or another, around the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month: in other words, Armistice Day, 1918.

My story, “The Record Set Right”, opens in 1980 in Kenya as eighty-two year old Camilla Frobisher, the widow of the war hero known popularly as The Aviator in the Iron Mask (although, as Camilla would point out to you, the mask was really tin, not iron), is drawn back to England and forced to confront a past that may not be exactly what she thought it was.

One of the things I love about this anthology is how different all the stories are, each with a different setting, a different window on the experience of the Great War.

For an advance copy of Fall of Poppies: Stories of Love and the Great War, here’s your question:

What’s your favorite book or movie about World War I?

The winner will be announced on Thursday.

Fall of Poppies: Stories of Love and the Great War appears in stores on March 1, 2016. It is available for pre-order in print or e-book from B&N and Amazon, or in print from Indiebound, Books-A-Million, Powell’s, and wherever else books are sold.

My story, “The Record Set Right“, is being pre-released as an e-short. If you pre-order “The Record Set Right” on Kindle or Nook, it will be magically whisked to your device on January 26, 2016– over a month before the anthology release date!
