Weekly Reading Round-Up

I’ve been chasing down details for the Barbados Book this week, so there hasn’t been time for much leisure reading, alas. But I did make it to Jamie Brenner’s reading for her latest, The Husband Hour, and have been reading it in snippets when I can. It’s women’s fiction set in a beachtown on the Jersey Shore as a war widow deals with the legacy of her husband’s death and the family secrets that begin to emerge.

What have you been reading this week?

I finished Heather Rose Jones’s Mother of Souls, a Ruritanian Romance set in the 1820s that deals with the magic of music. The best in her series so far. Now I’m reading Children of Blood and Bone for book club, just started so nothing has really struck me as “oh my god this is amazing” because it’s basic setup so far, but I’m hopeful. Also hopeful for some good finds with Independent Bookstore Day tomorrow!

I’ve been reading a book I think you would like. It’s called The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell. It’s set at a remote country house during the 1860s and it’s full of creepy gothic-tinged goodness.

I’ve been reading my first Jennifer Crusie book: Maybe This Time. It’s fun: Flora Post meets The Turn of the Screw. 🙂
