Weekly Reading Round-Up
Happy December!
There’s something about that post-Thanksgiving lull (and working on revisions) that just calls for comfort reading. For me, that means mysteries and British chick lit.
I dipped into Laurie King’s Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series with A Monstrous Regiment of Women
Of course, I was so happy to see him there, that I hopped over to the Dorothy Sayers section of my shelves for a re-read of The Nine Tailors
Now I’m into my seasonal British chick lit reading, starting with Trisha Ashley’s The Magic of Christmas
What have you been reading this week?
I’m re-reading Frederica, one of my favorite Georgette Heyer stories. My husband is writing a novel and asked me some questions about bell ringing, so I ordered The Nine Tailors for him. He’d never read any Lord Peter, just seen the shows on PBS and he is liking it. Such a shock! But here’s the good part: I’d been wanting my own copy of that book and now I have it!
I read Origin by Dan Brown, which I enjoyed but the reveal was totally a let down. Not at all the earth- shattering change that was advertised. But the actual plot of the book was fun.
I just finished Jane Austen: the Secret Radical and Maggie Stiefvater’s All the Crooked Saints. Now, I’m listening to Emma on audiobook and just started The Cracked Spine by Paige Shelton.
Taking a bit of a break from Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series (just finished #5) to read Tessa Dare’s The Duchess Deal
I just finished The Bedlam Stacks by Natasha Pulley, and it was wonderful and amazing part fairy tale part historical fiction. READ IT! The blurb isn’t anything what it’s like. Now I’m reading Diane Setterfield’s Bellman and Black and it’s a VERY slow start. Supposedly Gothic, but I’m over a hundred pages in a not much has happened.
Reading The Address by Fiona Davis, about half-way through.
The Austen Escape by Katherine Reay
I’m reading Mara by Eloise Jarvis McGraw. It’s set in Ancient Egypt with a feisty heroine and a backdrop of royal intrigue during the reign of Hatsheput.
I’m reading RSVP Murder by Mignon G. Eberhart who was considered to be America’s version of Agatha Christie back in the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s. Next I will read her Postmark Murder supposed to be set during Christmas season.
