Weekly Reading Round-Up

It’s always a joy discovering a new series. Instant reading material! This week, I moved on to book two in the Invisible Library series, The Masked City. These books remind me so much of Jasper Fforde’s Thursday Next books. Anyone else remember and love those?

After that, I zigzagged back to Scotland and women’s fiction with an old favorite: Alexandra Raife’s Wild Highland Home, about a woman who tries to come to terms with her life by pulling up stakes and moving to a remote cottage in the Scottish Highlands– and, of course, finds a sense of community she’d never dreamed of.

Next up, I am finally, finally starting Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses, which has been recommended on this page more times than I can count. (Well, I could count it, but it would be too labor intensive).

What have you been reading this week?

Not too much reading time this week, unfortunately, but I’ve started Mr. Churchill’s Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal and really enjoying it so far.
(Tip: have Maas’ 2nd in series, A Court of Mist and Fury, on hand so can dive directly into it after end of ACOTAR. It is SOOO good!!)

This week I made my way through Beverly Cleary’s YA books (which I’d never read before but are so reminiscent of her children’s books)– Jean and Johnny, Fifteen, The Luckiest Girl, and Sister of the Bride. Such sweet stories about innocence and young love 🙂 Then I flipped the script and had to read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas for book club; stark contrast in teenage experiences! Thought provoking and challenging to get into the (very ‘hip’) vernacular it is written in.

I just finished Thodora Goss’ debut novel The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter. Lovely mix of steampunk, historical fantasy with more than a dash of mystery. It was fantastic, and I finished the (400 page) book in four days. Would have been sooner if I didn’t have to work. 🙂

Yeah Thursday Next! Currently re-reading Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials before his new book, The Book of Dust: Belle Sauvage comes out in October. I just adore his alternate Oxford! Also, I want a daemon.

I finished Kearsley’s A Desperate Fortune and really loved it. Now reading Katherne Ashe’s novella The Pirate and I for an online book group.

I am so happy you are reading ACOTAR :)After this trilogy, I highly recommend her Throne of Glass series.

I am currently reading the sixth book in that series, Tower of Dawn.
