In honor of France’s upcoming national holiday, I’m giving away copies of my books in French!

I loved Beatriz Williams’ book Overseas, part of which takes place in France. And as a Bastille birthday girl who also had a French mother-in-law, I’d be thrilled to win!

Film: L’Allee du Roi, a French historical mini-series based on book of same title, about Louis XIV and his “secret wife,” Mme de Maintenon. Book: Shadow of Palaces, by Pamela Hill; same subject matter/setting as L’Allee, with slightly different take on the relationship & history between Louis XIV and Maintenon. Both just wonderful!
It’s a guilty pleasure, but I love French Kiss with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline. 🙂

Well, being French, can I play? Because, there are sooo many books I love that are set in France! The one I wrote, obviously, but anything by Alexandre Dumas and Emile Zola. The Scarlet Pimpernel. To Dance with King, by Rosalind Laker (actually, I think it was you, Lauren, that recommended it a few years back). Overseas, by Beatriz Williams.
I’ll stop at them, otherwise, I’d enumerate half of my bookshelf!! I love historical fiction set during the Ancien Regime until the Revolution and WWII books, when France was occupied by the Geman
army.
Books: The three musketeers by Alexandre Dumas, Cyrano de Bergerac, and Sandra Gulland’s Josephine Boneparte trilogy. Movies: “La Belle et La Bete” starring Lea Seydoux and Vincent Cassell”(LOVE!!!!) and “Chocolat” with Juliette Binoche, Johnny Depp and Judi Dench.
Movie: Coco Avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel) with the gorgeous, ever-alluring Audrey Tautou. Watching her life story unfold, hearing Audrey Tautou sing on stage as Coco reportedly once did, and witnessing her falling in love, not to mention the fashion, made the movie exquisite.
Novel: I adore Antonia Fraser’s Love and Louis XIV: The Women in the Life of the Sun King. It is incredible to learn the details of the women who shaped King Louis and his court, and it was fascinating to learn how the king was deeply affected by and influenced by these women in whole life.
Ooh, this is such a hard question. I adore everything French and besides the Pink Carnation-series I loved The Lady and and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier, Dancing for Degas by Kathryn Wagner, Perfume by Patrick Suskind and Labyrinth by Kate Mosse. Those are just a few of the many favourites.
As for movies I love everything concerning the French royal household, such as Le Roi Danse and Marie Antoinette. Also liked A Long Dimanche de Fiancaille and La Vie en Rose!

I think one of my favorite books set in France is Hunting and Gathering by Anna Gavalda. It’s set in modern day Paris, and involves a rather ragtag group of folks learning to live together. There’s some romance in there, too.
Sadly, I can’t read French well, but my husband is a native speaker. He and his sisters would love this.
