Weekly Reading Round-Up

Every now and then, it’s nice to revisit old books as a sort of literary palette cleanser, in this case, some of my less read books by favorite authors. This week, I dipped into Georgette Heyer’s The Unknown Ajax (which was so much better than I remembered it being!) and The Toll-Gate, and then stopped by 1920s London with Lord Peter Wimsey for a spot of Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club.

The real find this week, though, was an advance copy of a book coming out in September: The Way to London by Alix Rickloff, in which a spoiled twenty-something child of privilege finds herself on the run through blitzed Britain with a London street urchin and a strangely attractive mechanic. (Once I’m done with it, I’ll put it up for grabs here on the website, since it’s too good not to share.)

In the meantime, I know what I’m going to be reading tomorrow! The manuscript of the second Three W’s book, aka The Lusitania Book, aka Someday Our Title Will Come.

Karen White, Beatriz Williams, and I will be meeting up in our latest top secret bat cave to give the book a good going over– and plot the next one! We’ll be sharing important updates from our retreat (like what we’re drinking, and who brought the most luggage– cough cough, Karen, cough cough) on our Willig, White, and Williams Facebook page.

What have you been reading this week?

I read Karen White’s Tradd Street books and am now working on the latest Vince Foster Mitch Rapp novel (actually written by Kyle Mills) called “Order to Kill”.

Can’t wait to read the new WWW book!

Since my last update I’ve read Rich People Problems, the final book in Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians trilogy. I’m really going to miss that series. Also read two of Karen’s books – The Night the Lights Went Out, which I didn’t like as much as I wanted to, and The Guests on South Battery, the 5th Tradd Street book, which I really liked.

Still reading Estelle Ryan’s Genevieve Lenard books. I am reading the latest one.

I just finished Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl and am hoping to start Renee Ahdieh’s Flame in the Mist this weekend. The Way to London sounds like my kind of book so I made a quick detour to my local library’s page to put holds on everything by Alix Rickloff. The TBR list keeps growing and I’m blaming you, Lauren! 🙂

Just added Alix Rickloff’s books to my TBR list! I’m reading The Other Daughter this weekend. So excited!

I’ve been reading Dave Eggers The Circle, which is interesting, in the whole, this is how the world could be controlled, but also the technology is so dated being only 5 years old…

I just finished The Forgotten Room and thoroughly enjoyed it! I learned about it through Karen White’s books, as I’ve been reading her novels the last few weeks. I really look forward to the next 3 W book and exploring your books as well as Beatriz Williams books.

I just started The Year of Living Biblically – only on page 26 and so far so good.

Finished Jennifer Robson’s latest, Goodnight From London which I loved! I wish she wrote more than one book per year. Then read The Lost City of Z which was fascinating and well written. Finally, A Murder in Time by Jennifer McElwain. Time travel books are not my thing but this series is so good! I cannot wait for the next installment.

For all lovers of C S Harris I highly recommend her latest – Where the Dead Lie. Very grim but excellent, fast paced and filled with the usual great characters. And I’m past the halfway point in The Distant Hours by Kate Morton. Very different from her first two books but beautifully written.

I’m reading A Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. It’s amazing, and the best part is she already has a ton more books out in the series.

I just started Throne of Glass too! Good so far.

I am reading The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes by Diane Chamberlain. Really grabs you in.

The Flying Circus by Susan Crandall. Hands down the best book I’ve read all year. About a trio of unlikely individuals turned barnstormers in the 1920s. One is a brooding WWI alcoholic pilot, one a privileged society girl who wants a life of adventure and an orphaned farm boy who runs from false accusations.

I blasted through Julia Quinn’s newest, “The Girl With the Make-Believe Husband.” This new Bridgerton/Rokesby series is pretty darn good, but then again, that’s what to expect from her books. That one put me in the mood for her backlist, so I’m now restarting “The Lost Duke of Wyndham.” After that, probably going to Karen Marie Moning’s “Feverborn” or Philippa Gregory’s “The King’s Curse.”

Love Philippa Gregory! Have you seen the TV adaptation of her book The White Queen? So good!

The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane…. Really good!

  16. DJL on June 5, 2017 at 4:20 pm

Read Curse of Chalion, Poison Study, and just started Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas (her other series). And the fantasy kick goes on…
