Sometimes, you just need a fairy tale. This week, I revisited one of my all time favorites, Robin McKinley’s Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast
It’s a beautiful re-telling of Beauty and the Beast– with certain elements in common with the Disney version
From there, it was an easy jump to Naomi Novik’s Uprooted
What have you been reading this week?
I’m about to finish Tasha Alexander’s Behind the Shattered Glass and will begin Imperial Scandal, next up in a Tracy Grant reread.

I also love Beauty and always wind up rereading Rose Daughter, Robin Mckinley’s other novel length retelling of Beauty and the Beast, afterwards.
I started the week with Hannah Rothschild’s The Improbability of Love but switched midweek over to L.M. Montgomery’s The Blue Castle and Kathryn Lasky Knight’s Pageant, a loosely autobiographical novel about growing up in Indiana in the 1960s.

I spent much of last weekend at Texas Book Festival which was awesome & greatly expanded my TBR. The flip side is I didn’t do much actual reading for the week. I read Volume 1 of March, John Lewis’ biography in comic format & My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. I loved the Ferrante and look forward to reading more.
I’m in Charleston for a few days, and figured this was as good a time as any to start Karen White’s Tradd Street series. I had borrowed the first book on Overdrive, and had to go track down the next two at a bookstore this afternoon – I’m hooked. Also reading Ruth Ozeki’s A Tale for the Time Being for an online/podcast book club.
Im reading The Nightingale, excellent.
I’ve finally had a chance to read for the first time in months and I’ve been burning through books this week. I finished A Certain Age by Beatriz Williams and The Lake House by Kate Morton. I absolutely devoured Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan and now I’m reading the sequel, Crazy Rich Girlfriend.
I adore Beauty, and actually just read Rose Daughter for the first time (enjoyed that re-telling too). As for Uprooted, I think that was my personal Book of the Year last year. I just loved everything about it. You’re in for a treat!
I absolutely adore Beauty! I read it as a child, and it was one of the first novels to ever take me “down the rabbit hole”. I bought a copy years later, the same edition that you have!
Right now I’m beginning The Other Einstein, a novel about Albert Einstein’s first wife.

I’m a sucker for all things Sherlock (have been since I was 11). So this week I am reading “A Study in Scarlet Women” by Sherry Thomas, that proposes “Sherlock Holmes” was the alias of one Charlotte Holmes. Much better than I expected.
