I’ve finally gotten around to reading some new (and new-ish) releases that I’ve had on my pile for a while.
At the top of the pile? Eleanor Brown’s The Light of Paris
, a lovely book about a grandmother and a granddaughter, one in the 1920s, the other in the 1990s, trying to find their true selves in the face of the restrictions imposed by their families and society. And where better to do that than Paris?
From there I went on to Stephanie Clifford’s Everybody Rise
, an exaggerated portrait of a certain segment of New York life back in the boom days before the crash, featuring a social climber who finds herself in deep water (literally, at one point).
After a brief detour into vintage British chick lit with Trisha Ashley’s Every Woman for Herself
, I have Laurie King’s The Bones of Paris
waiting for me next.
What have you been reading this week?
Been doing a lot of re-reading. Just finishing up Anne Stuart House of Rohan series. Next is re-reading some Pink since it’s been a WHOLE YEAR! Hard to believe.
I was super tired and also tired of reading the same old stuff, so I went back in time and started re-reading Bernard Cornwell’s Richard Sharpe series. They would be great even if you hadn’t seen the series on PBS and see Sean Bean’s face with every move Sharpe makes. They’re exciting with great battle descriptions, very accurate historical detail and super wonderful characters.
I just finished The Lake House by Kate Morton and i enjoyed it so much! I listened to it on Audible in the car but if I was reading it, it would have been a book to keep me up at night to figure out the mystery! It is a long book almost 500 pages i think and over 20 hours on Audible!
Working my way through Anne Perry’s “Monk” series. Currently on “The Twisted Root”. I like the cases and the interplay of the characters. I have five more in a stack on my nightstand. One of these days, there will be an avalanche!
I absolutely loved *The Wild Girl* by Kate Forsyth. The instant I finished it, I downloaded the audio version performed by Kate Reading (the magnificent voice actor who also narrates the Pink Carnation series.) It was wonderful. I know I’ll be returning to both versions again and again.
I have been in a bit of a reading slump, starting things and not finishing.
I did read one book (from start to finish) that was the lovely
Murder With Peacocks by Donna Andrews.

I’ve been diligently reading the selection for my book club, God Is Disappointed In You, which is basically a shorter kind of funnier version of the bible… I don’t think it’s really working.
I also read the new Harry Potter and ADORED it. I knew that second major in Theatre would pay off in that I love reading plays still!
I am re-reading the first collection of mystery shorts called Malice Domestic.Sometimes I am too tired at night to maintain interest in a whole book. These are perfect and very entertaining.
