It’s been a rather crazy week, with much scurrying hither and yon, but I did take advantage of my event at the Mysterious Bookshop on Monday to buy one of the few Josephine Tey mysteries I haven’t read yet, To Love and Be Wise

Julian Fellowes’ lushly sarcastic Snobs, an insider’s view into the world of modern aristos for us plebs. I loved this Austen-like quote about a pair of social climbers: “They seldom talked much when they were alone. It is quite possible in this way for couples often not to discover that they are in profound disagreement over the very fundamentals of life until ten or even twenty years have passed.”
I had to make the very difficult decision of what to read next, even took a Facebook poll, Spencer Quinn’s Scents and Sensibility, which is fabulous, or The Other Daughter, which I am looking forward to starting this afternoon. A great week in publishing history !
I thought Snobs was excellent, Sheila – very witty and well written.
Brat Farrar is a family favorite! I’ve been luxuriously re-reading The Other Daughter while scrambling to get my blog ready for August (I have jury duty).
Oh, and I totally forgot I read the final in the FABLES comic series. Yes, the ending was that forgettable. Very sad for such a fun series.
I’ve been reading the Hope River series by Patricia Harman about West Virginia midwifes in the Great Depression. Excellent series I would highly recommend.
Omg! Ken Follett’s Fall of Giants. Loving the subtle history lessons, the characters, the drama, the story, the saga, just everything! I’m listening so the narration is superb.
I read the Passion of Purple Plumeria for the first time.
I am in my annual re-read of the Pink series, but took a break for The Other Daughter. I now have one week to finish Pink. Good thing I have the house to myself this week!
