I finally read Kate Morton’s The Secret Keeper and just started Elizabeth Strout’s The Burgess Boys.
But this afternoon? I’m going to read 32 FR 301 compositions…
I am reading a series by Dawn Aldridge Poore where the heroine is so stupid I just want to choke her, and she is very lucky the hero does not. Vicki, how could you do this to me? j/k
I just read The Black Moth a couple of weeks ago. More recently, Margaret Maron’s Christmas Mourning and Three Day Town; right now a Maggie Hope mystery, Princess Elizabeth’s Spy.
Yikes, sorry Sheila! I guess one readers’s silly, funny, clueless regency heroine is another reader’s TSTL heroine. I do think you have to push through, that series must be read as a whole.
I’m currently wrapped up in an ARC of Eileen Dreyer’s latest in the Drake’s Rakes series, Once a Rake. Enjoying it, but it has been so long since the last one in this series, I’m spending a lot of time trying to remember who different people are.
I also read Anne of Green Gables, finally, and I am looking forward to more. Amazon had a fab bundle deal for the kindle, so I have at last gotten around to this treasure.
Having read The Black Moth, anyone could see the talent of a Georgette Heyer just bubbling up.
This week, I’m taking a break and participating in the group read of Mansfield Park over at http://www.pemberley.com. What I absolutely love about their group reads is the depth of the knowledge of all the participants. I’ve learned SO much.
I read The Magpie Lord by K.J. Charles and The Black Country by Alex Grecian. Now I’m just barely starting Any Duchess will Do by Tessa Dare
I re-read Bridget Jones’s Diary… it has not aged that well. But I am excited about the upcoming sequel. Also still doing some Doctor Who reading, currently on a 4th Doctor book, such fun!
I recently re-read The Black Moth, and I was once again struck by her in-depth knowledge of fencing. All of those special terms, like when she says that her hero is “in tierce” (if I spelled that right?), took me back to a fencing class that I once took. (I got “killed” every time, and finally gave it up.) I discussed it with my Mom, and she pointed out that GH was from a segment of English society that was probably pretty familiar with horses, archery, and fencing. She was born about 110 years ago … closer to the Regency period (80-90 years) than we are now to the time when she was born.
Reading the wonderful Julia Quinn’s Ten Things I Love About You! I can’t wait for her new book at the end of the month!
I just finished Princess Elizabeth’s Spy. Now it’s the last of the Call the Midwife books, Farewell to the East End. Also am waiting for the next Maggie Hope book- His Majesty’s Hope. Wolf Hall is still on the agenda.
Michelle, how do the Call the Midwife books compare to the show?

The show is rather true to the books. The books go into more detail (like with Mary) and some of the events happen to different characters. It’s really interesting to see how far medicine has come in the last hundred years. Oh… and Sister Monica Joan is just like she is on the show!

I’ve just finished Daphne Du Maurier’s Frenchman’s Creek and Dumas’ Twenty Years after – and am now onto one of Laurie Graham’s earlier novels The Dress Circle on the Kindle and a Sookie Stackhouse in actual book (after picking up a whole bunch of them at a charity shop!).
On a recommandation you made last christmas, I read The First Love Cookie Club, by Lori Wide and I loved it! Full of Christmas spirit, emotions and a nice love story! I enjoyed every page of the book!
After that, I read a Christmas novella, A Cinderella Christmas Carol, by Hope Tarr, a romance novella inspired by Dickens’ Christmas Carol. It was ok, but not as good as The First Love Cookie Club…
I am now reading Letters from Skye, and loving it! I’ve alwaus loved epistolary novels…
I loved Letters From Skye too. I felt like I knew the characters and was so involved in their story. I really enjoyed learning more about WWI also.
I finished The Firebird – loved this book and the twists and turns. What an amazing ending! I want to read more of Susanna Kearsley’s books, especially Shadowy Horses and The Winter Sea which are connected to Firebird, but right now I am reading Deanna Raybourn’s The Dead Travel Fast. Thought this would be a good time of year for it and so far I have not been disappointed.
I just finished up Elizabeth Loupas’ debut The Second Duchess and adored it–very interesting in-depth take on the 16th century historical figures who became the inspirations for Robert Browning’s poem My Last Duchess. Liked EL’s Style so much went out and bought her 2nd book, The Flower Reader–will start same tonight.
