As some of you may know, I’m starting work on Pink XI, Sally Fitzhugh’s book, right around now. Last month, it came to my attention that Sally is in possession of a rather unusual pet. Because, yes, Sally would have to be original.
The pet? Is a stoat.
So far, I have resisted entreaties to name Sally’s pet stoat Pulchritudinous Oblong (long story), but the poor little stoat still needs a name.
Any suggestions?

I was going to suggest Stoat, but I think Sally has a bit more imagination than Henrietta (sorry, Hen).
I bet Sally would name it after someone just to irritate that person, haha. Maybe Miss Climpson? Or Reggie/Turnip? Or another girl from her school whom she doesn’t like?

Toast – an anagram, and also fun to say (if a bit of a tongue-twister): Toast the stoat. Stoats are brown with white bits – like inexpertly toasted bits of bread done in front of the fire. (I checked, and the word “toast” has been in use since at least 14th century.)
Stoater or stoter – stoter is a slang word which had been in use for at least a hundred years by the early nineteenth century. It meant a great blow. Perhaps not a term which Sally would know; maybe a male relative or friend, fond of boxing, might name him?

I like LMT’s suggestion of Fitzherbert. It makes me laugh, in Bridget Jones her boss was of that name and she called him Fitzpervert.
I also like Chester for a stoat.
I agree that she would name it after someone she dislikes. Or turnip because let’s face it as a little sister sometimes being passive agressive is just so fun!
