If You Like….

The author apologizes. I found myself flat out of “if you like” inspiration this week.

SO– do you have any particular tropes or types of books you’d like to see explored in an “if you like”? If so, let me know in the Comments section below!

    Apologies if you’ve done this before, but what about an “If You Like” about books where familiar authors are characters in the story, like “A Good Hard Look” (by Ann Napolitano about Flannery O’Connor) or “The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott” (by Kelly McNees)?

    I know you’ve done friends to lovers, but how about books where the h/h loathe each other at first sight, or have lots of ugly water under that bridge?

    I’m not sure if you’ve ever covered this topic, but I enjoy books set around an archaeological dig. A few books come to mind (The Shadowy Horses by S. Kearsley, The Curse of the Kings by Victoria Holt, the Amelia Peabody series, and Barbara Erskine’s Whispers in the Sand), but I’d love to brainstorm a few more titles like these. 🙂

      They’re not romances, but I enjoyed Wilbur Smith’s Egyptian series. The first one, The Sunbird, had “current” archeological elements mixed in with the historical drama.

    I’d also love to know if there are books where a seducer happens to fall for an intellectual, hard to approach and know-it-all (or the girl-next-door, shy and barely noticed by anybody – I have a soft spot for those two kinds of women) he would never have considered had the situation been different…

    I can’t remember if you did this already, but books set around academics (preferably Oxford University) such as “A Discovery of Witches,” “The September Society,” “the Rossetti Letter.” etc.
    Also, I second the one with the shy heroine. I love books where the wallflower finally gets noticed.
