Webinar!
April 17th, 2012

I am thrilled to announce that I am going to be teaching an on-line seminar for Writer’s Digest University.

I’m particularly thrilled because… yes, I was that pre-teen with a stack of Writer’s Digest in my bedroom. When other people were buying Seventeen for “Five Tricks to Tighter Abs”, I was reading “Five Tricks to Tighter Prose”. So it’s rather amazing to be asked to teach a class for them. Eleven year old me is over the moon about this. (Okay, adult me, too.)

Even better, Writer’s Digest has told me they’re going to do some nifty things with tracking links so that people who register via my News page will have the chance for extra perks. (I’m still getting the details on that, but there was some talk of free downloads of the current issue of Writer’s Digest.) As soon as I have the proper link, I’ll put it up here.

The first class is going to be on The Ins and Outs of Writing a Series, on Thursday, May 3 at 1:00.

If it goes well, there will be subsequent classes, including one on How to Write a Love Scene (Robin’s brilliant suggestion via Facebook!). Anyone else have any other topics to recommend?

    Oooooh, that’s absolutely great!!
I can’t wait to have the details!

I don’t know if it’s a topic that would interest people, or if it is just me, but I’ve always wondered… how do writers find names that fit their characters perfectly, names that tell what and who the character is, names the reflects the period AND their personality? Where do you find the inspiration, the ideas for such great names as you give your characters?

Using Back To The Future as an example, how on earth do you keep the characters in the correct space/time continuum when they can appear anywhere/anytime/ in a book series? That would be a good subject because it is seemingly so difficult.
