Reading Round-Up

This is something of a reading round-up in reverse. Instead of the books I’ve already read this week, these are the books I have stashed away to read over the holiday:

— Kate Morton’s The Distant Hours I’ve been saving this one as a bribe for finishing the 1920s book. It isn’t quite done, but….

— Eva Stachniak’s The Winter Palace: A Novel of Catherine the Great. This was sent to me as an ARC a while ago, but wound up buried under a pile of research books. Ooops.

— Juliana Grey’s A Lady Never Lies. This is the first in a new, Edwardian-set historical romance series coming out next year– all based on Shakespeare plots! I’m very excited to read it.

— Norman Davies’ Vanished Kingdoms: The Rise and Fall of States and Nations. This is the first of the holiday history book haul, all about the kingdoms that rose and disappeared, like Burgundia. Don’t you love the sound of that?

What are you planning to read over the holidays?

I’ve just started a historical romance by Juliette Benzoni, set in Napoleon’s France… then, I don’t know yet, maybe Tracy Grant or Tasha Alexander. Or Julia Quinn. I haven’t decided yet!
Your reading planning sounds wonderful and I do have The Distant Hours in my TBR pile, too, so I’ll be waiting to read your opinion on it! 🙂
Oh, and Merry Christmas!!! Careful with the chocolate! 🙂

I love Kate Morton! You should read her other books: The Forgotten Garden & A House at Riverton :]

“The Mischief of the Mistletoe”. I have been waiting for the holidays to read Turnip’s story.
Stack of rereads: “Frederica”, “Black Sheep”, and some Carla Kelly Regency Christmas stories.
The family is reading “A Christmas Carol” to each other after dinner.
Lot of new books coming out next year! Can’t wait!

    Happy Holidays Everyone!

I just received an early Xmas present, Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones, and seeing as how I read the first book in the series over Thanksgiving weekend, it seems only appropriate to read this one over Xmas. I can’t wait!

Santa is bringing me a Kindle Fire, so I am looking forward to loading that puppy up with a ton of e-books, starting with the sexy romp Sleeping With Paris by my friend Juliette Sobanet. FUN!

Wishing Lauren and all of my fellow Pink Carnation fans a happy holiday!

The Davies book actually does sound really interesting. I’ll have to look into it. If it’s really, really scholarly, I’ll probably only dip in.

The Grey book sounds really promising, too. Thanks so much for the reading roundups. They are such fun, and I always find good stuff!

I’m finding that there’s so much to read, but so many distractions, even on vacation. I’m trying to get through a bunch of stuff and it all looks fun: The Diary of Anna Green Winslow (colonial diary), Ivy and Intrigue (looks like a real treat!), American Bloomsbury by Susan Cheever and a bunch of others! Happy Holidays to all!

Just finished “The 5 People You Meet in Heaven”. Hoping Santa brings “The Queene’s Christmas” by Karen Harper. As soon as I can get a copy will read “Brave New World” since my daughter has to read it over the holiday. May re-read MISCHIEF since I couldn’t wait and read it earlier in December — it was delicious~ Merry Christmas everybody! (Catherine the Great sounds interesting)

To the Moon by Jill Mansell.

I also have Ivy and Intrigue on my husband’s Nook. I keep forgetting!

I’m reading Lisa Kleypas’s Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor now, and have several Christmas anthologies lined up for when I finish.

Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah to Lauren and all the Pink followers.

I’m on P 44 of Cecelia: Memoirs of an Heiress by Frances Burney. I downloaded it onto my Kindle and it is in 3 volumes and must be, good grief, about 900 pages (!) Having read Evelina, Burney’s style is just so elegant and sophisticated.

SusanN: Have you read Lisa Kleypas’s Wallflower Christmas yet? That read is a RIOT!

I set aside The NIght Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Finished it last night. Was wonderful! Now I’m getting ready to start Jane Austen Made Me Do It. You might be familiar with that one already 🙂

I’m thoroughly enthralled with “The Mischief of the Mistletoe.” About a third of the way through it. Just discovered you. Will be reading more!

Thanks, Kimberly! I’m so glad to hear it!
