An Embarassment of ARCs

There’s something of a book pile-up on my kitchen table right now. Not only are there ten copies of the book version of Ivy & Intrigue, just waiting to find a good home, but a surprise package arrived yesterday, containing ARCs (advance review copies) of The Garden Intrigue.

What to do?

I need an equitable means of distribution, which means it’s contest time. Does anyone have any brilliantly fabulous contest ideas?

Since you’ve written two Christmas related books, how about a contest to see which OTHER holiday people enjoy reading about and/or with which of their favorite literary characters?

Pictures of people reading your books, or pictures of your books in different book stores or other places? How about getting people to write a poem about one of your books?

Not brilliantly fabulous, but it’s early and I haven’t had coffee…

Have contestants suggest taglines for the series or Garden Intrigue?

Short blurbs, like you’d see on the inside of the jacket cover, describing the plot of your next book.

    Contest for Contest Ideas? haha

Quote from a random page in favorite Pink book or favorite quote form a Pink book.

Ideas as to who Jane will end up with since we now know it will not be Augustus.

LOL i am game for anything. i like creative contests but have the winners be random. That would be excellent fun! Or take an idea from your characters? not sure what contests they would want to do.. though an obstacle course at spy school does seem out of the question 🙂

How about pulling out the old “Pink for Pink” contests? October is Breast Cancer Awareness month!

Stephanie – I would LOVE a spy school obstacle course! The Spy Museum in DC has a program where you get a GPS and have to solve a mystery around the city. I imagine the obstacle course would be partially like that and partially sword play.

Stage your own Pink theme scene picture. Make it modern or set in the Pink time period. Pick a favorite scene for any of the books, get your friends or draft your family to participate and snap a shot. Let the readers decided which they like the best.

I am pretty sure my husband would be willing to swing from a chandlar or sword fight with some pirates. The only question is weather I can get him to wear a mask. hummmmm

I’m guessing from the excerpts that you have posted on the website that we are in for some excitement and hijinks as Augustus and Emma and Colin and Eloise attend house parties. How about a contest where people submit stories–real or imagined–of house parties or garden parties gone awry? Readers could submit their fictional house party blurbs that involve characters from their favorite books or from history. They could also submit tales from their own adventures sharing a house with a group: beach houses/holiday parties/family vacations in a shared house…the sky is the limit. The most entertaining entry wins an ARC!

Pink Carnation haikus summing up the plots of each novel!

My home would happily take in a stray ARC. It would have lots of friends (namely every book you’ve written and many many other books) and would be well-taken care of, loved and cherished.

Has the Pink in all 50 states been completed? Maybe once it is a drawing from the entrants…

How about our most embarassing moments that made our faces ‘pink’?

  15. Maggie on September 8, 2011 at 4:52 pm

How about post a random quote either weekly, daily, or hourly etc. The first to respond with either the book title, following line, or speaker wins.

Poetry contest! Limericks, Haiku, clerihews, cinquains, doublets, etc. With this, I might be competitive instead of clueless.

How about which ~*PINK*~ character you relate to the most and why??

  18. Ashley on September 8, 2011 at 10:15 pm

What about which characters we would like to see get a future book?

Thanks for all the fabulous ideas! I’ve been dying to comment on them, but somehow got myself locked out of my website for most of the day…. Grrr.

How about creating a pink carnation collage for the series? kinda like peep o rama but with pictures.

  21. Emily on September 12, 2011 at 2:27 pm

How about have people create movie taglines and have them suggest who the stars on the posters would be for any of the pink books.
