Teaser Tuesday: Pink X

You know how I say not to trust what I post in advance because my plots tend to change on me? Well, sometimes the whole book changes on me.

This has happened twice before. The first time was in 2006 with Pink IV. I had Charlotte’s story all plotted out and then Mary and Vaughn came barging in, demanding a book of their own. As we all know, Mary doesn’t like to be refused. I figured that was a one-time thing, Mary and Vaughn being the sorts of people they are.

In the spring of 2009, Turnip blundered across my path, derailing the partly written Orchid Affair with his Christmas puddings and miscellaneous misadventures. That was a particularly memorable one because the blinding moment of revelation occurred, not in the quiet of my own living room, but in the middle of an RWA-NYC meeting. At which I was speaking. While I was speaking.

All of this is a very long way of saying that should disregard what you may have read over on the FAQ page. Pink X will not, in fact, be about Kat Reid and Tommy Fluellen. Instead, Pink X will be about… Miss Gwen. Miss Gwen commanded and I obeyed.

What can I say? She wields a mean parasol.

  1. This is incredible news. I hope to see Miss Gwen interacting with lots of our Pink friends.

  2. That’s wonderful news! A whole book devoted to her feisty personality…I hope her hero is strong enough to handle her!

by Chanpreet on June 7th, 2011 at 9:19 am

  3. Miss Gwen!!!!!!!! Well, if Miss Gwen asks, you obviously have to obey! I can’t wait, I really am impatient now!!! :)
Do you know yet who will be her hero?

by Céline on June 7th, 2011 at 9:20 am

  4. Can. Not. Wait!

But I am still excited for Kat and Tommy’s story, whenever the other characters give them a chance. Poor Tommy…first his dream girl is hijacked, and when his true love is ready, that darned Miss Gwen gets in the way…He does have rather a habit of being run over by domineering women (cough, Dowager Duchess of Dovedale, cough)

  5. As excited as I am about Miss Gwen getting her book (which I am!!!), I’m slightly disappointed Tommy and Kat’s book is being put on hold. It was rather genteel of Tommy to step aside for Miss Gwen though… even if she did bully her way with her parasol. :)

  6. Genius, Lauren! Having a heroine of a certain age for book 10 will be a great way to mix things up. I can’t wait to see who you come up with as a match for Miss Gwen. He will have to be quite formidable in his own right I would imagine!

A Pink book about Miss Gwen would transition nicely into one about Jane, don’t you think, Lauren? :) My hopes have been dashed for a Jane/Augustus love connection, but I don’t doubt that you’ve got a wonderful hero in mind for our favorite spy!

  7. Great news. That will be an entertaining read!

by Georgia on June 7th, 2011 at 10:01 am

  8. As much as I was looking forward to Tommy’s story (big Tommy fan here!), I’m very excited for Miss Gwen’s story! Out of curiosity, how old is Miss Gwen? I’m sure it must have been mentioned somewhere, but I can’t for the life of me remember. Anyone know?

by Rebecca W. on June 7th, 2011 at 10:40 am

  9. *on my knees, bowing continuously, ala Wayne and Garth, exclaiming I’m not worthy, over and over again*

A great big yeah from here — not that I don’t look forward to all your books, but I’m super happy to hear that and can’t wait for that one!! Hers is going to be loads of fun!! :)

  10. Hi, Celine! I’ve known about her hero for several books now (insert evil laughter here), but I think I’m going to hold off on any announcements for the moment. I’ll do a Teaser Tuesday post about it later in the summer, once the book is farther along.

by Lauren on June 7th, 2011 at 10:51 am

  11. Hi, Rebecca! I don’t think it’s mentioned in any of the earlier books, but Miss Gwen is in her early forties. She prefers that people think her older, though. More respect that way.

by Lauren on June 7th, 2011 at 10:53 am

  12. Best news I’ve heard all day!!

by Suzanne on June 7th, 2011 at 11:06 am

  13. SQUEEEEEE! so excited! I can’t wait to get back into the series!!!! :)

by Tipsy Reader on June 7th, 2011 at 11:31 am

  14. Such exciting news!!!! I can’t wait to see who her lucky hero is! Thank you, Lauren!

by Sarah on June 7th, 2011 at 12:17 pm

  15. That is awesome! I can only imagine the depths of the love of the poor soul that will have to suffer her parasol (if only at the begining of their relationship.) I can’t hardly wait!

by Marie on June 7th, 2011 at 12:18 pm

  16. This is going to be fun thinking up interesting titles for Miss Gwen’s story! I’ll bet your readers are going to come up with some brilliant (and hilarious) ideas!

by Joanne M. on June 7th, 2011 at 12:39 pm

  17. You’ve known?!? Is he in the other books? Now I will have to read them *again* and see if I can spot him! :)

by Tricia on June 7th, 2011 at 12:43 pm

  18. Now, now now, Lauren, you’re really evil! :)
All I can think about is WHO will be Miss Gwen’s match?!? Just like Tricia, I’m wondering whether we’ve already met him or not. Will he be of Miss Gwen’s age? I’ll have to read all the books again, too, to see if I can spot the lucky guy!!

I just can’t wait for your Teaser Tuesdays about them….. :)

by Céline on June 7th, 2011 at 1:15 pm

  19. Hmmmm…I’m thinking her hero is someone from Miss Gwen’s very Mysterious Past. Maybe he is the original donor of her parasol?

by Sheila on June 7th, 2011 at 1:17 pm

  20. Jane needs a new chaperone. No seriously great news! I can think of no one who deserves it more.

    by Am7 on June 7th, 2011 at 1:52 pm

  21. It does seem like poor Tommy loses out from being a gentleman (he did with Penelope, too). But I second/third/whatever all the people who are excited to see Miss Gwen get her own book! Can’t wait!!

by SarahC. on June 7th, 2011 at 2:15 pm

  22. Like. How about Snapdragon? ;-) Can’t wait and am curious to see if, as another reader mentioned, the hero is someone she knew in the past such as perhaps an “elder” from the times of the Scarlet Pimpernel’s league, a side character from earlier books or someone new with an equally commanding presence about him. :-)

by Christy on June 7th, 2011 at 2:32 pm

  23. WHooooo!

by JennaRose on June 7th, 2011 at 2:40 pm

  24. Well, there is always the delicious ‘Elderflower’… for the mature spies among us!

by Susan Shaw on June 7th, 2011 at 3:46 pm

  25. I am not quite sure why we are speaking of flowers but for the mature spies among us there is always delicious ‘Elderflower’ ! I can’t wait for all these stories!

by Susan Shaw on June 7th, 2011 at 3:48 pm

  26. Miss Gwen with her parasol vs a hero with a cane like Lord Vaughn, or a similar weapon – he’s got to at least match her in his haberdashery!

by Ginger on June 7th, 2011 at 4:03 pm

  27. Awesome. Possibly even better than getting Jane’s book. :D

by shel on June 7th, 2011 at 5:05 pm

  28. First of all…I am sososososo happy about this. As much as introducing new characters keeps the series alive and fresh, going back to the original characters is just 100% fun (ie Mistletoe).

As for the title, I will reiterate what I put on facebook…”The Charge of the Purple Ostrich Feather” :)

by AngelB on June 7th, 2011 at 5:25 pm

  29. YES. That is awesome!

by Pam on June 7th, 2011 at 6:00 pm

  30. You need a “like” button a la Facebook – some awesome suggestions and comments here!

by Ellen on June 7th, 2011 at 8:14 pm

  31. Looking forward!

by Urs on June 7th, 2011 at 11:01 pm

  32. Hooray! I adore Miss Gwen! And Jane.

by Nicole N on June 7th, 2011 at 11:27 pm

  33. Yeah! I’ve been waiting for Miss Gwen’s book since Pink I. I was wondering- will Miss Gwen’s hero be Alex Reid’s father?

by Rebecca on June 8th, 2011 at 12:51 am

  34. Rebecca, you and I are thinking along the same lines. Wonder if it might be Alex’s father…?

Lauren, can’t wait to read the Miss Gwen book. The “accidental” books have been my favorite.

by Alexandra J on June 8th, 2011 at 10:42 am

  35. Can not wait. I love Miss Gwen. I wonder if we have met her hero yet. I was looking forward to Kat and Tommy’s story. Well I guess we do have to lissten to the voices in our heads from time to time. I know they can get angry when we don’t.

by Heather on June 8th, 2011 at 1:03 pm

  36. Yay! I love Miss Gwen.

by kiley on June 8th, 2011 at 3:10 pm

  37. Yes, I was thinking Alex’s father myself. Hmmmm.

by Brenda on June 8th, 2011 at 3:21 pm

  38. In the immortal words of Francis Urquhart, “You might well think that; I couldn’t possibly comment.”

You guys are just way too good.

by Lauren Willig on June 8th, 2011 at 3:27 pm

  39. Miss Gwen and Alex’s dad would be a fantastic story! I just can’t get enough of this series. I want a Jane story desperately, but Tommy and Kat will be a fun one too.

    So excited!

by Tina on June 8th, 2011 at 3:35 pm

  40. Miss Gwen? Her interior monologue will be ridiculous fun to read! I am even more excited than I was planning to be.
Also noting— her age means I can TOTALLY justify pitching a review to a website I write for. (Women’s interest for the 40plus demog)

by Elizabeth W on June 10th, 2011 at 1:24 pm

  41. It would be hilarious if Miss Gwen turned out to be a cougar. Just saying lol

by Stephanie on June 10th, 2011 at 2:51 pm

  42. YAY! Miss Gwen gets a book!!

by Rachel Nicole on June 13th, 2011 at 11:26 am

  43. Oh Lauren, here I was re-reading the entire series up to The Orchid Affair, thoroughly paying attention to anything related to Tommy and Kat and now this? Come on! ;-) . Do I have to start over and re-read everything with a closer look on Miss Gwen now? Not that I would mind, but my boyfriend was sort of looking forward to me actually paying attention to him again instead of burying my head in the PINK books.

Seriously though, I am looking forward to Miss Gwen’s story. My guess would also be Colonel Reid. Miss Gwen needs a reformed rake of the worst kind. And a big family to meddle with. So in my mind he would be perfect.

Any chance, since you seem to be working on two books right now, that we get another 2-book-winter like this year with Mistletoe and Orchid? One can hope, right?
