As we ramble down memory lane with The Secret History of the Pink Carnation, I have a secret to share.
The Secret History of the Pink Carnation didn’t start life as The Secret History of the Pink Carnation. Its nickname– since all my books have nicknames while I’m working on them– was Purple. As in, “Sorry, I can’t make drinks tonight. I think I’m going to go work on Purple.” Its official name, the one that lived on the upper left hand corner of my manuscript submissions was (are you bracing yourself?) A Rogue of One’s Own. (There’s a very long story behind that one, involving my best friend, garden implements, and a tenth grade play, but we don’t need to get into all that here.)
At the time, I had a daydream-y image of a whole Rogues Gallery of Rogue books. Miles’ book was going to be The Rogue Next Door, Geoff’s The Rogue Less Traveled (I wasn’t totally sure about that one, since Geoff actually traveled quite a lot, although as a metaphorical statement about his level of roguishness, it did kind of work) and so on.
So here’s your contest question for today, if you had to give a Rogue title to any of the subsequent Pink books, what would that Rogue title be?
Crimson Rose and Blood Lily positively scream out for Rogue re-naming….
Five winners of an advance excerpt of The Mischief of the Mistletoe to be announced here tomorrow!

Roughly Roguish – I like the title, I’m not quite sure whom it fits best – I mean Vaughn’s more than roughly a rogue, Robert doesn’t really give off much of a roguish vibe, and Alex is pretty straight laced too… I kind of think it fits Miles more than anyone else, but I guess he’s anointed already.

Most of what I was going to suggest has already been written, so I’ll put in the only thing I could think of –
“Rock ‘n’ Rogue”
Yeah. Not sure if it fits any of the heroes (if anything, I’d choose Vaughn), but I’ll give it a shot! I’ll be honest, I just like the way it sounds… ;D

Blood Lily

For Blood Lily, I would suggest, ‘The Rogue of India’ OR ‘A Rogue Runs Through It’
For Crimson Rose, I would suggest, ‘The Reptilian Rogue Returns’
But, a “Rogue” by any other name would sound as sweet…

mmm,
all the great punns are represented
I am not going to try to be particularly punny.
Crimson Rose:
The Serpent Rogue
Vaughn would be the best rogue, but I couldn’t think of anything. He does love snakes though.
Night Jasmine:
A Rogue at Girdings
again nut punny, but as Lauren pointed Girdings is provocative
Blood Lily:
A Rogue Among Thorns

How about what might have been and what might be? Had Blood Lily been set in Burma, wouldn’t it be “The Rogue to Mandalay”? When you get around to Arabella and Robert Alderly, set during WWII in the India-Burma theater, might the intrigue not have something to do with the “Burma Rogue”? Any story revisiting previous characters might be “On the Rogue Again”. And if you follow up on the suggestion to set a novel in the American South, how does “Tobacco Rogue” sound?
