Lady Jane’s Salon– Monday!

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

New York’s only romance reading series is now one year old! To be honest, I never thought it would take– but it did, and in a big and wonderful way. I’ve written a piece about the first year of Lady Jane here, on Lady Jane’s website.

On Monday, as part of Lady Jane’s birthday celebration, I’ll be reading and signing The Betrayal of the Blood Lily. Sharing the podium with me will be debut author Sara Lindsay and our guest emcee, Leslie Carroll. Please do come join us for champagne, cupcakes, and a bit of Blood Lily!

Time: Monday, February 1, 7:00-9:00
Place: Madame X, 94 West Houston Street

Five Years of Pink!

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Believe it or not, February 7th marks the anniversary of five years of flowery spies. The first of the Pink books, The Secret History of the Pink Carnation, made its official debut on February 7th, 2005. Since then, The Secret History of the Pink Carnation has spawned five sequels (with three more in the works!) and been translated into foreign languages whose alphabets I can’t read. The mind boggles.

In honor of Pink’s fifth birthday, I’ll be hosting five days of reminiscences, recaps, and mini-contests, starting on February 2nd (next Tuesday) and culminating in a virtual Pink birthday party, here, on the News page, on February 7th.

Come join me in celebrating five years of Pink!

If you didn’t make it to the reading…

… you can read about it here, in this lovely recap of Tuesday’s reading and Q&A by journalist Elizabeth Willse.

Reading at Lady Jane’s Salon Monday

Friday, January 29th, 2010

If you missed my reading of The Betrayal of the Blood Lily at Borders this week, fear not! There’s another chance to come see me ham it up at the podium coming up next Monday, February 1st, at 7:00 at Madame X on 94 West Houston Street.

This, however, is a little different from your average, run of the mill, common garden variety reading….

I am thrilled to be part of the one year anniversary extravaganza of one of romance’s most inspiring institutions: Lady Jane’s Salon. Founded by Leanna Heiber, Ron Hogan, Maya Rodale and Hope Tarr, Lady Jane’s Salon provides a space for romance readers and writers to come together, as well as collecting money and books for contribution to a charity called Share the Love.

This coming Monday, February 1st, we’ll all be coming together to celebrate Lady Jane’s one year anniversary with readings, champagne, and– because what birthday would be complete without them?– cupcakes. Sara Lindsay and I will both be reading from our latest books, cheered on by guest emcee, the charming and talented Leslie Carroll, author of the historical nonfiction sensation Notorious Royal Marriages.

The festivities kick off at seven o’clock on Monday night at Madame X on 94 West Houston Street. Whether you come for Blood Lily, Lady Jane, or those cupcakes, I hope you can join us in raising a toast to romance, writing, and sharing the love!

The Making of BLOOD LILY

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

You know those documentaries where they show you how they made the movie? Well, consider this a very brief equivalent.

The “Difficult” Heroine

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Write Chic just posted an excellent article discussing the career of the anti-heroine in fiction. She uses Mary, from The Seduction of the Crimson Rose, and our very own Penelope of Blood Lily as two of her prime examples. The first ones who come to mind for me are Scarlett, from Gone With the Wind, and Amber, from Forever Amber.

Who are your favorite anti-heroines?

Contest Winners!

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Alex’s sisters are… Kat and Lizzy. We’ll be seeing Lizzy in the next book, The Mischief of the Mistletoe, where she plays a peripheral but not insignificant role.

The twenty-five winners of the preview of The Mischief of the Mistletoe are listed below. Those whose names are listed here will receive a pdf of the first three chapters of Mistletoe later this evening.

If your name isn’t among those listed, don’t despair! In honor of the five year anniversary of the publication of Pink I (can you believe it’s almost been five years?!?), I’ll be holding daily mini-contests between February 2nd and February 6th, with a mega-contest on February 7th, the fifth anniversary of the publication of Pink I.

And today’s winners are….

Pink Pandemonium at Borders!

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

A great big THANK YOU to everyone who came out for the New York reading last night! And to the wonderful Borders folks who scrounged out every last chair in the store to try to find places for people to sit. It was an amazing evening, and I’m so thrilled to be part of such a vibrant community of readers, writers and friends (as you can imagine, those categories all substantially overlap).

Thanks so much to everyone!!

And for those of you who had to miss it, fear not! I’ll be reading from The Betrayal of the Blood Lily again next Monday at Lady Jane’s Salon.

New York Reading Tonight!!

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

As you can tell from the multiple exclamation marks, I am super-excited to be reading tonight in my hometown, at one of my favorite bookstores.

See you tonight at 7:00 at the Borders on 57th & Park!
