Pink across the Pond

The UK version of The Secret History of the Pink Carnation is now officially out on shelves across the Pond. Unlike some of the foreign editions, which stick pretty closely to the American cover, Pink Britain chose to go with a totally different look. Which do you like better?

honestly i am not sure. I love the Us edition because of the perfect shoes and dress. Plus it does not look overly like a romance but more historical. Where as the Uk edition looks more like a romance. Thought i absolutely love the dress in that one as well. So i think they are both lovely

I like the US version more. Because well, she’s wearing pink, whereas the girl in the UK version is wearing blue…

I adore the british version because it’s a real woman- very personal. Plus it’s gorgeous. I agree with Stephanie that it looks more like a romance novel then the american version.

Is it just me or does the woman in the UK version look like Reese Witherspoon? And yes, I’m aware we can only see below the eyes. 🙂

Personally, though, I enjoy the U.S. version much better. Just…because, I suppose. 😀

Amanda- I can see where you would get that from.

As for which, I’m going to say the US version. The color pink doesn’t make much of a difference for me, but as Stephanie pointed out, it looks more like a historical than a romance and I don’t really read romances, but I do read too many historical fiction. (and for some reason they are almost all set in England lately. I have no idea why, but I need to break this trend and try something new.)

I love love love the US version, but I still liked the UK version to order it for my shelves.

I prefer the original, because it is such a lovely painting, but I do think the British cover has it’s merits as well…and I agree with Rebecca W.–it does look very much like Reese Witherspoon! It could almost be a still out of ‘Vanity Fair’ :p

I love the US version, since it matches the next two books, I like how the parchment paper thing goes across and the flower(or gemstone) that matches the title.

I like the US version best because, as Tanya says, she’s wearing pink! But the hobbyist costumer in me feels duty-bound to point out that both of them are wearing dresses that are more Georgian than Regency. 😉 But then, it *is* hard to find a picture of a Regency miss in which the subject is not wearing white!

Hmm, have to go with the US one. . . but I always wonder when I see the foreign versions, would I like them if I wasn’t so used to the one I have. But in the end, sure wasn’t the cover that made me get Pink Carnation anyway! 🙂

Definitely the US cover – it lends a more historical air to the novel.

I instantly thought that looked like Reece Whitherspoon!! EXACTLY like her! LOL Maybe that’ll sell extra copies – people thinking a movie’s coming out with her in the title role! 😉

Because of that, it makes me think too much of her in Vanity Fair (loved it), so I’m afraid I’d be thinking of her in the characters the whole time (which doesn’t match my own imagined gals).

Anyway, all that to say that I like the US version much better. 🙂

I like the US cover better. I’m glad I had them shipped. :]
I’ll be looking out for the UK cover in the shops though!

Rebecca, that was my first thought too! “Is that Reese Witherspoon’s chin?”

I can’t really decide which I like better. The UK cover looks a little too Southern Belle to me, maybe it’s the parasol-looking thing in her hand. But, she’s more of what I picture Amy to look like in my head than the US cover. On the other hand, I like the pink dress on the US cover, and THAT’S what I picture Jane like. I can’t decide!

I agree with Deanna. Though I personally love the US cover because of the pink dress. How can you have a novel about a spy named the pink carnation without any pink?

The pink + brunette look is without a doubt better, given Amy’s nom de guerre and hair color. It’s petty but I HATE HATE HATE IT when book covers are so innaccurate as to confuse hair color, etc.
