Hi, all!
Just a quick heads-up to remind you that this is that last week to enter the current contest to win an advance copy of The Temptation of the Night Jasmine. The contest closes on Halloween, both because I like Halloween (it’s the combination of getting to wear a tiara every year and having official license to eat sickening amounts of candy) and because it’s an easy date to remember.
I’ll post winners on the News page (i.e. here) the following Monday. The first five names picked at random will receive advance copies of Night Jasmine. The next five get signed cover flats for the paperback of Crimson Rose.
There’s an extra little twist to this particular contest. Unlike most contests, there’s no right or wrong answer. The question was: “Who is your favorite Pink Carnation character?” So, in addition to the real life winners, I’ll be posting the fictional winners as well, the winners of the Pink Carnation Popularity Contest, in order of the number of votes they received. It’s a bit like a high school prom, only with fewer streamers and more knee breeches. I’m very curious to see which Pink character will be named homecoming queen… or the equivalent thereof.

Geoffrey Pinchingdale-Snipe, he is intelligent, loyal and wise. He goes through a lot of character growth and is wonderful with Letty at the end of the book.

Richard. He’s got it all! The epitome of a dashing Englishman, what? He’s got it all! Looks, charm, wit, intelligence. Not to mention that wonderfully masculine trait of infuriating we of the fairer sex while making us fall madly in love!

I was wondering if anyone else would say Letty. I love her human-ness (is that even a word?) and that she represents a slightly different class within the tightknit cirle of main characters, bringing in a whole new perspective that I love.

I’m going to vote for Letty for a couple of reasons. I read Emerald Ring first (due to its eye-catching cover!) so she has loyalty going for her. I might vote for Eloise, but Letty has a much more exciting wardrobe, an important factor in any decision I think. But, have to say, Eloise is keeping me interested because she hasn’t bagged her man yet. Based on that, I change my vote. It’s a tie between Eloise and Letty - Eloise still might edge her out in spite of her limited 21st century wardrobe, though that is a pretty big handicap.
Lauren - you’re me hero. Am doing doc review and live in hopes of someday also escaping. I also hope that none of the other doc reviewers see the romantic pink website I am looking at!

Although I should feel an affinity for Eloise (being a fellow history grad student under pressure of deadlines), I’d have to go with good old Miles Dorrington. I love the descriptions of him as over-eager sheepdog. He pops more vividly into my mind than any of the other characters, and I can perfectly picture him sitting across the room and stuffing himself with ginger biscuits . . . and then coming to the rescue in the knick of time.

I love that all the characters have their own partisans! This is shaping up to be a very tight race….
Wouldn’t it be fun to have a Pink Carnation Idol with a panel of judges composed of Lady Uppington, Miss Gwen, Gaston Delaroche, and the Dowager Duchess of Dovedale? Although if that’s too female heavy, we could always substitute Vaughn for the D.D. of D.– I’m sure he would have a great deal to say!

Samantha, hang in there with the doc review! I don’t know which is worse, the computer kind, which always used to freeze on me at crucial moments, or the paper kind, which resulted in so many paper cuts that a group of us all chipped in and bought a group box of band-aids (bleeding on the documents being considered poor form). But at least it provides good horror stories to share later….

Brooke, I am ridiculously amused by the notion of Miss Gwen’s parasol as a separate character. If that parasol could talk, I’m sure it would have a LOT to say. It might be complaining to the Union of Umbrellas, Parasols, and Parapluies (UPP for short) even as we speak….

I’d have to say Charlotte. She reminds me of so many of my high school students who are somewhat quiet and shy but have an undiscovered adventurous streak a mile long. When someone helps them explore it, they bloom. It’s something to see. :-)I hope to see the same happen for Charlotte!

What a tough decision, with so many colorful characters to choose from. I’d have to say Eloise, though. She can put her foot in her mouth with the best of them. I get embarrassed for her, feel for her and can relate to her clumsy moments and mutterings all too well. I hope she gets her own happy ending one day.

Miles for sure! He’s all guy, but he’s so endearing because he can’t quite be the picture perfect hero he wants. It makes him all that much more attractive. I also like that he’s tall!

My favorite character is Mrs. Selwick-Alderly, aka Aunt Arabella. Her role in the plot is small but important. She understands the importance of history, AND she knows how to be charming and polite. What’s not to like?
