A Sneak Preview of THE TEMPTATION OF THE NIGHT JASMINE

Hi, all!

I hope everyone had a glorious 4th of July weekend, complete with barbecue, sparklers and all the trappings.

Two hundred years and an ocean away from July sunshine and backyard barbecues, it’s Christmas Eve in 1803, where Lady Charlotte Lansdowne shivers on the frost-bleached marble steps of Girdings House as an unexpected addition to the Christmas house party gallops down the frozen lane….

In other words, I’ve finally posted the long promised excerpt from The Temptation of the Night Jasmine. Voila the complete, the entire, the unabridged text of Chapter One. Happy reading!

  1. What a wonderful beginning! Reading the first chapter makes me wish I could find Night Jasmine in my stocking Christmas morning. January seems so far away…

  6. Great first chapter… I don’t suppose you would consider posting additional excerpts in small doses(kinda like methadone) to keep us going until January? Maybe bits and pieces that have been edited out?

  7. I agree with Georgia Lauren! lol Goodness Gracious….January is not going to get here fast enough! I simply cannot wait! =)~ Could you feed our addiction just a little now and then?? lol

  8. “…the Dowager Duchess of Dovedale, the woman who had launched a thousand ships—as their crews rowed for their lives in the opposite direction.”

I quite love you, Ms. Willig. ^^

Charlotte always reminds me of Georgiana Darcy. It’s so weird.

  9. Don’t you think the cover picture looks a bit like Georgiana Darcy in the Colin Firth P&P? I’d never really thought about Charlotte in relation to Georgiana, but I can see the similarities– shy, bookish, accomplished, born to great wealth, crotchety old dowagers for relatives, etc.

  10. Hi, Georgia! Well, if you insist on more previews…. : ) I’ll post the first Eloise chapter sometime around Thanksgiving. In the meantime, I’ll have to look around and see if there are any good outtakes to share.

  11. Yaay!! Eagerly awaiting the next installment…

  12. I finally made the time to sit and read it. . . but I shouldn’t have because there’s no rest of the book to read after it! LOL :) Can’t wait, just loved the preview! :)

  13. I just read the first chapter and I so want more! I’m hooked already and can’t imagine how on earth I’m going to wait till January to get my hands on the rest. Argh!

  14. What will/does Charlotte look like?

by Colleen on July 20th, 2008 at 3:30 pm

  15. Hi, Colleen! I can’t remember how much of a description I gave of Charlotte in “Black Tulip” (authorial memory loss strikes again). Charlotte is small and fair, with the sort of even-featured face people refer to as “pleasant” and then forget five minutes later. Her hair is a medium blond and her eyes an indeterminate shade somewhere between green and gray. She’s been so used to fading into the background to avoid the tantrums of her temperamental grandmother that it’s as though she’s developed her own sort of protective camouflage.

  16. Oh my gosh I love it!!! This is way fun, and I love your way with words, as always. I can’t wait until January!!! Any chance of getting more excerpts between now and then?
